Information about the role of the parish council in the planning process

The Parish Council is invited by the Planning Authority (Lancaster City Council) to comment upon all planning applications within the Parish. The Parish Council endeavours to respond to all applications irrespective of whether it supports, objects or is neutral to the particular application.

In determining its responses, the Parish Council takes account of current national and local planning policies, plans and guidelines, as well as parish matters, and strives to act in the interests of the whole community. The Parish Council typically restricts its comments to those aspects of the planning application which are considered to be valid ‘Material Planning Considerations‘. The final decision on all planning applications lies with the Local Planning Authority, Lancaster City Council.
